Trailer - "Gran Torino"

Trailer -

Check out this powerful trailer for Gran Torino, Clint Eastwood's latest movie about a stubborn war veteran who's at a changing point in his life when new Asian neighbors force him to explore his prejudices and stand for what is right.

His Gran Torino character is Walt Kowalski, a racist Korean War veteran whose prized possession is a classic car that catches the eye of local gangs in his Detroit neighborhood. One of the troubled kids who covets the vehicle is from a family of Hmong immigrant neighbors, whom Kowalski has long resented.

...

Newcomer Bee Vang, a 17-year-old Hmong American originally from the Minneapolis area, was cast as the neighbor boy who strikes up a mutually reluctant relationship with Walt.

"The young kid, as part of a gang initiation, tries to steal it, and the old guy gets him at the end of the M-1, which becomes kind of a big deal," Eastwood says. "The kid has to do penance because of the pride of the Asian group. They make him do penance. He has to come over, and the old guy doesn't want anything to do with him, doesn't want him anywhere around."

The movie gives a big stage for the portrayal of the Asian world of gangs and violence and pride, and hopefully educates people way that Better Luck Tomorrow brought insight into the Asian culture. Read the full interview with Clint by Anthony Breznican over at USAToday.com.

Releases December 17 via Warner Bros.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"

Thursday, Jun 19, 2008

As if you didn't spend enough time surfing the internet, we decided to start featuring trailers of cool upcoming movies on our blog.

Brad Pitt plays Benjamin Button in this movie about a man who is born 80 years old but instead of getting older, he grows young. Pitt is reunited with the director of Se7en and Fight Club and the movie features Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton. The movie is loosely based on the novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In the early 20th century, 80 year old Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt), is born aging backwards (he was an old man as a baby and vice versa), causing complications when he falls in love with a 30 year old woman (Cate Blanchett).[2] Director David Fincher said "It's dark, it's romantic, and it also deals with mortality in a pretty unflattering way. Button is born in 1919 - with the film itself beginning in World War I, traveling around the world and carrying on all the way through to the year 2000."

Release Date: December 19, 2008

If you're not watching 300...

If you're not watching 300...

For those who aren't already planning on watching 300 you might want to check out the Korean foreign-film "The Host" being brought to States by Magnolia Pictures. Already the #1 top grossing movie out in Korea, it's a pretty scary movie on the same lines as Jaws. Movies like this you'd expect it to be ultra cheesy, but the Korean style of merging a drama Asian-style with black comedy and a monster flick is very impressive. I felt there were tons of underlying political statements regarding the United States but that's up to you to intepret. Comes out this Friday in limited release and the reviews so far have been nothing but great. Quoting Elizabeth Kerr from The Hollywood Reporter:

This is one of the strongest widespread panic segments ever witnessed in a horror film. The terror of the day-trippers by the river and the ensuing pandemonium is set to Lee Byeong-Wu's excellent pounding score. And there's no skimping on the monster: Bong doesn't try to create an air of mystery -- or explain its existence beyond the aforementioned lab scene. He just gets to it.
