Back to the 80's at J Lounge - Miami Vice is Nice

For our upcoming Back to the 80's themed event this Saturday, November 28th, we're doing an article series on 1980's fashion.

Stop for a second and visualize what point in time you would travel to if you had a time machine. Now throw away your top two choices (December 26, 2012 to see the end of the world and the day before the time you caught your parents getting it on, to warn yourself). Great, what do we have left? The 80’s you say? That's my pick too!

When I think of the 80’s I think of a magical time, a time when men could proudly wear pastels without ridicule, spend as much time and product on their hair as their female counterparts, and even participate in dance without shame. An emergence of style like no other came into effect. Run DMC pioneered the surfacing look of mainstream hip hop as well as defined many trends still seen today. Miami Vice taught us it was cool to wear t-shirts underneath our suit jackets even if it was pink. Fast Times at Ridgemont High glamorized the early surfer style that many teens adopted. Any way you look at it, people were making statements and not simply fading into the background.

Heading to our 80’s party and need a helpful list of items to start your outfit placed directly below?

Look no further, well actually, just a little further.

- Ray Ban Wayfarers
- Adidas shell toe shoes (or pretty much anything by Adidas)
- Anything pastel or neon

- Loafers without socks
- Skinny jeans
- Colorful matching track suit

- Members’ only jacket

- Bucket hat

- Cutoff denim (shorts or vest, your choice)
- Vintage Motley Crew t-shirt
- Things you couldn’t get rid of at the yard sale (just kidding, not really)
