Back to the 80's at J Lounge - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

For our upcoming Back to the 80's themed event this Saturday, November 28th, we're doing an article series on 1980's fashion.

You know what they say, fashion always comes full circle and the 80’s have come back in full swing, well, almost. Thank the 80’s for the resurgence of neon, off-shoulder shirts, crop tops, long t-shirts, mini skirts, thick belts, tight stonewash jeans, zippered legs, leggings, leg warmers, colored hose with rips, hoop earrings and high tops.

A few trends that have been left behind include extreme shoulder pads, scrunch socks, exercise gear, the sweater around the waist, Swatches overload, jellies, big hair bows, slap bracelets and clock necklaces.

And how can we forget the excessive hair and makeup of the 80’s? Hair was teased and burnt to a crisp; women feathered, teased, crimped, bleached and dyed their hair multi-colors. To top it off, women also wore ridiculous amounts of hairspray to keep their tresses intact and if all else failed, a side ponytail was always a popular option. The face was also shown no mercy; vivid makeup was the uniform of the 80’s. Blue eye shadow, heavy mascara, light pink lips, beauty moles, and glitter everything was the standard day look, for night, just double everything mentioned above.

Think Flashdance, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Blondie.
